Who we are

Instituto Lado a Lado is the name we have given to the ministry of James and Elsie Gilbert, missionaries with Equip Inc, working in Brazil since 1998. From the beginning, our call has been to reach out to children and teens facing great adversity.

As a strategy, we chose to come alongside those who were already knee deep in their efforts to rescue, care, defend and promote children and teens out of difficult circumstances. We want to serve Jesus as he fulfills his promise to the little people in the kingdom of God. Jesus often referred to them as “the least of these.” And here is his promise: “I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” Jo 10.10

• creating resources in those areas we find an unmet need;
• reaching out locally to a few special needs children and teens have identified like the need for vocational mentoring and the need to explore spirituality with art and recreation.

We have a small team of Christian workers, based in Viçosa, a small city located in the state of Minas Gerais.
